Walls

I was a girl who put up walls.

Cement and bricks. The big bad wolf couldn't blow it down, Pinocchio couldn't lie his way in, Flynn Rider couldn't climb it, and even Prince Charming couldn't charm his way to the other side.

But all it took was your smile.

For a little while, I tried to stop you. The more I felt myself caving in, the faster I cemented the bricks up high.

Until oddly, one day, I found myself staring right at you, telling you a story that no one has heard before. Then you held my hand and I felt things I've never felt before. Then you looked into my eyes and I saw things no one has ever seen before. You put your arm around me and I felt the safety I thought my walls provided.

You freed my imprisoned thoughts. You made friends with my demons. You slayed the dragons.

I was never a princess but you made me feel like I was in a fairy tale. And our happily ever after still feels like once upon a time.
