"I might wanna fly like a paper plane but in the end, I'd still choose falling for you..."

Kabanata 16

"It was nice seeing you all here," A smile left my lips while looking at my batchmates who looks in awe that we are finally stepping out of this university and will take another path towards our success.

"But seeing us here now? I have never felt this proud, we finally made it, guys! After we step out of this university then the real challenge will start, the real battle will finally face you. The reality of our life, careers and future." I said.

"This batch will forever be the best part of me, alam kong hindi lang masaya ang lahat, there are times that we are sad and angry but despite that, we managed to stand strong, that we actually made it here in this place, wearing our black togas and gripping our dreams." I said and smiled.

I looked at my parents and saw my mother crying.

I smiled and nodded at the faculty.

"And I wanted to thank my friends, my classmates, my batchmates and my fellow graduates today, for being here, making my college life memorable."

My eyes shifted on the empty space where he is supposed to be seated by now but he isn't here.

"And to my inspiration...thank you. Wherever you are right now, I hope you'll continue to fly, even without me. I believe you, I trust in you. See you again someday, my love, when the right time comes...I promise to see you." I murmured.

"Congratulations again, everyone!" I said.

"Take a flight, soar high, like paper planes in the sky." I raised my black cap and they all cheered and raised their cap with me.

I was filled with congratulatory messages the moment the graduation ended, my eyes swelled with tears when I saw my friend, Cecille, waving at me.

I ran towards her and hugged her, she hugged me back, nang yakapin n'ya ako ng mahigpit ay napaluha ako.

"Atleast, you didn't cry infront of the audience." She joked.

I sniffed a bit harshly drying my tears.

"H-He isn't really here," My voice broke.

"He's on his way to Cambridge." She said, "I heard the professors talking, narito sina Tita ngayon para kunin ang diploma n'ya."

"G-Ganun ba?" My voice broke.

"Lena, hija..." I heard my Mom kaya lumayo ako kay Cess at ngumiti sa kanya.

"Mamá..."

"Come here, quick! Let's take a photo!" She called at ngumiti si Cess sa akin at tumango.

"Congratulations, Cecille!" My mother said when she noticed my friend.

"Salamat po, auntie. Ingat po kayo, mauuna na ako." She waved at me, ngumisi naman ako at mahinang sinabing mamamasyal kami minsan.

"Is it really obvious?"

"Hmm, not really." He smiled. "I just know what your real smile looks like."

I chuckled and shook my head.

"Is it because of him?" Natigilan ako at sumulyap sa kanya.

"Huh?"

"You are inlove with him," He tilted his head.

"K-Kanino?"

"Si Sandejas," He chuckled.

"I always felt that he is inlove with you," Napatitig ako nang magsalita s'ya.

"Paano?" I murmured.

"His gaze at you, iba. He's like a magnetic field for girls but he looks at them the same way, walang pinagkaiba, samantalang sa'yo, nakikita kong nagagalit s'ya. He is joking around but do you know that he's checking on every boys that is interested with you?"

Kumalabog ang puso ko roon.

"I remembered him saying to me to never touch even just the tip of your hair.

"I-I...just did what I have to." I murmured softly.

"Sa Harvard ba?" Aniya. "That's why..." He nodded and patted my head.

"What is destined for you will always find a way back, Lena. Always." He smiled.

I saw how starled my Mom is when she saw me approaching, I looked at Auntie Alice and her husband.

"Congratulations, hija." She said softly.

I forced a smile, nang lumapit s'ya para yakapin ako ay niyakap ko s'ya pabalik at natigilan nang bumulong s'ya.

"He said he's proud of you," She murmured.

A tear left my eye.

"H-He left?" I murmured. She hugged me more and sighed.

"He's on board now." Aniya.

"Alice, mauuna na muna kami sa sasakyan." I heard my mother saying, hindi na nakasagot si Auntie roon at sa halip ay si Uncle na ang sumagot.

When they left, marahang lumayo ako kay Tita. I saw her gasped when she saw my tears, hinawi n'ya ang luha ko at tumalon.

"Oh my God, I didn't mean to make you cry!" She exclaimed.

"I-I'm alright, Auntie... I just..."

"Your son will be mad if he found out about this." I stopped when I heard his father's voice.

"Congratulations, hija." He smiled at me.

"T-Thank you, Sir." Magalang kong sabi. He chuckled, the strict persona slowly fading.

"Don't be too formal, hija." He shook his head. "You can call me Uncle."

I saw Tita Alice moving near her husband and smiling at me.

"Kumusta na po? Ayos na po ba kayo?" I asked him.

He smiled and nodded at me.

"Yes, I think." He chuckled. "Ejercito really knows how to choose a girl, hmm? Ang lokong 'yun."

"Of course! See?" Auntie flipped her hair, making us both laugh.

I saw his father's blue eyes, ang strikto nitong aura ay may halong lambot. Parang 'yung Ejercito ko, I bet he'll look this dashing when he reached this age.

I just don't think I'll ever get to this kind of version of him.

"Of course, mahal." Uncle chuckled, kissing her wife's head.

"I almost forgot."

"For you."

I blinked rapidly.

"My hard-headed son won't go if he can't give you that." Aniya.

"H-He gave me this?"

"The stubborn man," Umiling si Uncle. "When we're on our way to the airport, we saw a flower shop, nagtaka ako bakit n'ya pinapatigil so I did, lumabas tapos magbalik may dala na n'yan."

"He won't tell at first the reason of the flowers, hindi nagsasalita e." Ani Auntie. "But before he went inside the airport, he finally talked, saying to give this to you. Sabi n'ya, he's proud of you."

"T-Thank you po." I murmured.

"And we're thankul to you too," Uncle smiled genuinely at me.

"He won't disappoint us, Lena. He'll be great someday and when the right time comes at kayo talaga ang sa isa't-isa, kahit gaano man kayo kalayo, gagawa ang tadhana ng paraan para ang landas n'yo ay muling magtagpo." Auntie murmured and smiled at me.

I watched as the leaves flew on the ground as the wind went past them. I let the cold air touched the strands of my hair, nanatili akong nakaupo sa field habang pinagmamasdan ang mga batang masaya at ang pamilyang sama-sama.

I even saw a couple holding hands under the tree.

I smiled sadly.

"Lena! Your kite's nowhere to be found!" Cecille's voice filled my ear, kaagad ko s'yang nilingon.

"Huh?"

"You're pre-occupied! She asked.

"Babalik naman siguro 'yun," I murmured.

"Ang saranggola?" She asked. Napakurap ako at ngumiti.

She said. I froze.

You're still waiting for me, right?"

"H-Hindi a," I cleared my throat, looking away.

"E, bakit may pag-iwas?" She teased, nag-init ang pisngi ko roon.

"Ilang taon na ang nakalipas, Leona." Aniya. "Move-on, move-on rin."

"He's successful, he definitely has a lot of girls there. Baka may girlfriend na o papakasalan." I told her.

She smirked.

I slapped her arm.

I said. "Busy ako..."

"Saan? Sa pageants mo? You won almost all of the major crowns the country can offer! Don't tell me you're busy with your pageants kung tinaggihan mo ang mga imbitasyon nitong nakaraan?"

"I feel like I have to focus more on our company, tutulong ako kay Papá sa opisina." I said.

I murmured.

She giggled. Ejercito's a good, great man. Mahirap maghanap ng pamalit sa lalaking 'yun."

"But I am proud," I said softly. "That he finally reached the dream he always had. I am proud how successful he is now, I bet his kids will be great too. I wonder if they'll got their father's eyes? O kaya ang mata ng asawa n'ya?"

"I think if it's a boy, makukuha ang mata ni Sandejas. Kapag babae, baka ang sa'yo." Aniya.

I froze.

Tinawanan naman ako ni Cess at siniko.

"Don't deny it, Lena. You're somehow wishing you'll be the mother of his children."

Ngumuso ako at sinuklay ang buhok ko.

"Parang ang impossibleng mangyari, Cess." I smiled a little. "He probably found his the one on States, baka nga ikakasal na 'yun, atsaka bakit naman ako babalikan 'nun? I doubt he'll still talk to me like how we talked before. I pushed him away, Cess."

"You pushed him away to help him." She pointed out.

"But I still did." Bulong ko sa hangin. "I just wished I'll get to see him again after all these years, baka nga hindi na ako kilala 'nun."

"Si Leona pa ba?" She exclaimed. "You're a queen, Lena! The newspapers has your face all over it! I doubt wala s'yang balita sa'yo!"

"Maybe he blocked it?"

"I doubt he still think of me, sino ba ang gustong palaging isipin ang nanakit sa'yo?"

"Malay mo, s'ya? Iniisip ka pa?" She teased.

Ngumuso lang ako at umiling.

"Uuwi na pala ako maya-maya, hinahanap na ako ni Mamá, may kakausap raw sa aking talent scount, probably for a shoot again."

"Malay mo, makahanap ka ng model diba?" She said.

"Sana..." I murmured.

"Anyway, naalala ko ang reunion!" Bigla s'yang pumalakpak kaya nilingon ko s'ya. "You received an invite, right? Our batch is celebrating for this year's event!" She exclaimed.

"Nakapagpatahi na ako ng gown! My Mom's readying for the ball!"

"Really? Lahat ba ay pupunta?"

"I think so! Our batch is one the most successful batch! Pansin mo ba? They all have big and great professions!" Habang nag-iimagine s'ya roon ay natahimik s'ya at nilingon ako.

"Do you have something to wear?" She asked.

"Wala, I won't go." I shook my head.

"Huh? No! You should! You are the star of the batch! You should never missed this reunion!"

"Wala pa nga akong damit," I said.

"Baka may hinanda na si Auntie." She grinned. "Tsaka, alam mo ba? There is a rumor na a-attend s'ya?"

"Who?" My forehead creased.

"Yung eroplanong papel na pinakawalan mo." She grinned.

I froze, my heart started thumping again as I took a step back and shook my head.

"I...definitely won't go."

Napahawak ako sa dibdib ko at umiling.

"You should go!" She said, holding my hand.

"Hindi na." I murmured.

"We should see him ourselves, tignan natin kung may girlfriend na talaga?"

"No, ayos lang ako." I murmured.

We both looked up, only to see an airplane, definitely landing on the local airport nearby.

I smiled sadly and watched as the airplane faded on my sight and sighed.

Will you be back to me, my paper plane?

Journal entry #1:

Who would have thought that I'll be stalking Leona Harriet Abelló? I just met her and I am definitely pre-occupied by now. Saw her went out of class so I followed her and saw her alone. Should I talk to her? Or just watch her from a far?

I can offer myself as a friend? Then...maybe more?

And why the hell I am writing this cheesy journal?
